To regulate the ballast water discharge from ships and to control the transfer of invasive species; The IMO developed and adopted “The International Convention for The Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004” (Ballast Water Management Convention). The BWM Convention was entered into force on 8 September 2017.
